How do I get a floor supplier to abide by its contract? The engineered white oak floors which were delivered and installed were defective. Some planks have warped, the joints have gaps, the floor is sloping and uneven. Nails were hammered into the planks which should not be done on engineered floors.
It has been three weeks since its owner had promised to rectify all these defects. I insisted that she puts all these in writing before we resume talks.
As of today May 22, , she has not given any document on the time frame and rectifications to be done.
This floor supplier is supposed to be well known in the industry. I had paid them 70% of the required down payment since Aug 2008. Since we decided on the oakwood instead of teak which cost more, there was an additional downpayment which we paid on Aug 2009. Materials were supposed to be delivered on December 2009 per contract. But, these were delivered April 15, 2010 or 5 months delayed.
The materials were of sub standard quality. Instead of 15mm thick as stated in the contract, planks were only 5mm or 7mm. Instead of 6 in in length only 5 in were installed. The floors were not properly installed according to the method stated in the contract.
Another item which was ordered from this supplier is the 2in teak solid wood stairs. The required 70% was paid since July 2008 and until this day, these were not delivered. In short, the delivery of the stairs has been 21 months delayed.
We have moved into our house and the defective floors are so unsightly and I cannot , somehow, fix the furniture since the floors have to be replaced or rectified.
I am seeking the assistance of any reader who may have a similar problem with this floor supplier.
